Lola’s Story

A heartbroken and distraught family reached out to us in a last-resort attempt.

Lola is a four-year-old Dogo Argentino, UKC registered, who was purchased along with her sister as puppies.

All went well; their family was happy and thriving until one fateful day when Lola got into a fight with her sibling.

Then, other fights proceeded until the girls had to be separated.

The family sought help from their veterinarian, Dr. Lafarro from Emerson, and gave him a call.

Without seeing nor examining Lola, the veterinarian confidently said that Lola should be euthanized.

The veterinarian told the family that Dogo Argentino are dangerous and offered them no help.

The veterinarian continued his speech about euthanasia being the only choice.

Repeatedly telling the family that she could not be rehomed, that Lola would have depression and anxiety, and telling them that she would be better deceased.

If this veterinarian's recommendation were accurate, there would be no rescue. This veterinarian telling his client that dogs cannot be rehomed is infuriating and misleading.

The veterinarian also told the family that the price for their beloved dog's euthanasia would be $800.

Which, in our opinion, is a hefty amount.

The family left the phone call, afraid of Lola. They didn’t know what to do and sought other avenues to help Lola.

When we were made in contact with Lola’s family, we were speechless.

For a veterinarian to proudly claim that Lola should be euthanized without even examining her, without doing any medical testing, is genuinely infuriating.

We cannot believe this veterinarian had never heard of sibling rivalry in dogs, also called littermate syndrome.

A quick Google search would have given this veterinarian more insight, but instead, he proudly claimed and recommended that Lola be put down.

How many innocents have suffered because of his recommendation? Because, in his opinion, dogs shouldn’t have second chances.

The family was totally lost after their conversation with the veterinarian, and who could blame them? They told us that the veterinarian made them feel like there was no hope for Lola and that all he wanted was to make some money.

This story broke our hearts, and we promised to help them with Lola. Lola is worth it, and she deserves a second chance.
